The Visitors’ Center is a 3,100 SF mixed-use facility comprising administrative offices, a produce pick-up area for CSA members, a classroom and storage. The project received its LEED Certification in June 2013. Some of the green building strategies include:

  • 25% decrease in potable water use: high efficiency plumbing fixtures are specified, and reclaimed water is used for landscape irrigation and toilet flushing
  • 38% decrease in electricity consumption: the design includes an improved building shell, high-efficiency heat pump air conditioning system, and insulated, low E window assemblies
  • High-efficiency lighting strategy: includes computer-simulated and optimized lighting densities, occupancy sensors, high efficiency T8 lamps and ballasts, and LED site lighting
  • The interior includes low-toxicity finishes, recycled content, local materials and FSC-certified wood throughout
  • Native landscaping and high-efficiency drip irrigation complete the project site
